Tony Seba Speaking at the Global Leaders Forum, Seoul, Korea, Nov 19th, 2014

Speaking at the Global Leaders Forum 2014 in Seoul, Korea

I had the pleasure of participating in The Global Leaders Forum 2014 in Seoul, Korea as a speaker and moderator. The main keynote speaker on day 1 (Nov 19th) Technion Professor Dan Schechtman who won the Nobel Prize in 2011 for his discovery of ‘quasicrystals’.

Technology: Creative Thinking” with four world-class thinkers and entrepreneurs:

  • William Hallal, Founder of TechCast Global and Professor at George Washington University,
  • Patri Friedman, Founder and Chair of the Seasteading Institute,
  • Daryl Oster, CEO of ET3 (Evacuated Tube Transport Technologies) and
  • Alex Min, Cofounder of Terafugia.

All their talks were fascinating and I recommend you visit these websites.

I was then interviewed by Chosun Biz, which published a story here.

J.P.Morgan TMT Conference in Asia

Keynote at J.P. Morgan Technology Conference Hong Kong

For the second time this fall I was invited by J.P.Morgan to give a keynote about the Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation.  This time,  I spoke at J.P.Morgan’s 2nd Annual “Global Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in Asia” which took place Nov 17-18, 2014 in Hong Kong.

A noteworthy point to make is that this was a technology conference. Other speakers included:

Electric Vehicles (and Self-Driving Cars) are essentially computer tablets on wheels.

Once you start thinking about the disruption of transportation as a technology disruption then it makes sense that technology investors, tech companies, and entrepreneurs would be interested in learning about the Clean Disruption.

Petroleum will be made obsolete by information and communication technologies just as film was made obsolete by ICT. Would a 30% or 40% cut in the price of film have prevented the disruption of the film camera industry? Not at all.

Investors are catching on to the Clean Disruption of Energy and Transportation.

SolarPVTV Visionary Discussion Panel at Solar Power Int’l Las Vegas

Last week I was part of a Visionary Panel discussion at the Solar Power International conference in Las Vegas. Moderated by Jigar Shah (Founder of SunEdison,  1st CEO of Carbon War Room, and author of “Creating Climate Wealth”), the panel kicked off the SolarFuture.today campaign.

I was joined by an all-star group of panelists, which made for an interesting (but too short!) conversation about the future of solar energy:

  • Chip Comins, Chairman and CEO at The American Renewable Energy Institute (AREI, Inc.)
  • Dean Solon, President & CEO, Shoals Technologies
  • Arturo Herrero, CSO & Head of Emerging Markets, JinkoSolar
  • Alex Levran, Senior VP and General Manager, Power Conversion, Global Product Group Solar, ABB
  • Robert Benedict, VP America RECOM, Author of the History of Solar on examiner.com

September Speaking Around the World

My speaking schedule the first three weeks of September included flying almost 20,000 miles to give two keynotes, two seminars, and filming for one TV show. That’s before the Stanford quarter started Sept 22. Here’s a quick rundown:

1. J.P. Morgan Asia-Pacific Equity Conference in Boston

My first stop was at the J.P. Morgan Asia-Pacific Equity Conference in Boston, Thursday, Sept

4th, where I spoke about the clean disruption of transportation. Boston is a hub for large asset management companies. Fidelity alone manages $1.9 trillion in client assets.

My key takeaway is that institutional investors are paying attention to the disruptive potential of electric vehicles and self-driving car technologies.

2. Callaghan Innovation – “Anticipating and Leading Market Disruption” in Auckland

My second stop was Auckland, New Zealand where I partnered with Callaghan Innovation to teach a 1-day workshop titled “Anticipating and Leading Market Disruption”. Here’s the seminar flyer.

This workshop is the 1-day version of the course by the same name I teach at Stanford

The disruption workshop was held here at GridAKL

University.  We held the event on Monday Sept 8th at GridAKL  in Auckland’s Wynyard

quarter.

3. Callaghan Innovation – “Anticipating and Leading Market Disruption” in Christchurch

I flew to Christchurch, New Zealand, to deliver the same 1-day workshop titled “Anticipating and Leading Market Disruption” on Wednesday Sept 10th.

I flew back to Auckland for a board meeting at CloudM, and then came back home to San Francisco on Monday. I spent the day Wednesday filming with a TV crew at Stanford, San Francisco, and Oakland (more later) and then flew to Los Angeles, CA, on Thursday.

4. AltCars Conference & Expo, “Clean Disruption of Energy & Transportation”, in Santa Monica, CA

I was the keynote speaker at the 9th annual AltCars Expo and Conference in Santa Monica, CA, on Friday Sept 19th.  The title of my keynote was “Clean Disruption – why the U.S. will be using 100% electric transportation and 100% solar energy by 2030”.

I came back home where my Stanford course “Anticipating and Leading Market Disruption” course started Monday Sept 22nd.  All in all this was a fun three weeks delivering keynotes and workshops.
